About JA - message from the leadership

Thank you to the many dedicated donors who made a financial investment to support financial literacy education, 2010-11 was an exciting time of revitalization of Junior Achievement in Kansas City. Each investor helped JA impact local youth with financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship education.

JA’s mission is to prepare young people to succeed in a global economy by delivering age appropriate education to the classroom in the areas of financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship. Keeping this mission in mind, the leadership of our dedicated board of directors and staff, Junior Achievement in Kansas City has gone through a significant transformation the past year. Below are a few, yet noteworthy accomplishments we have achieved:

• Increased the number of students reached by 12% over the previous year – reaching 13,425 students through 613 classes
• Recruited and trained 531 classroom volunteers from 127 companies
• Partnered with 560 school teachers in 139 schools
• Increased annual funding by 50% over the previous year
• Eliminated $109,000 of debt
• Established a financial reserve account
• Completed a strategic planning process resulting in a focus on program delivery in Title 1 schools

JA exceeded the financial “stretch” goal for the year and with a focus on strengthening organizational infrastructure and stability is gearing up for greater student impact this year and into the future. The board members and staff are excited about the ability to reach and impact more students with financial literacy education in the years to come.
