Volunteer - FAQs
What is Junior Achievement?
JA is the oldest, largest, and fastest-growing non-profit economics education program throughout the world. JA reaches students in grades K-12. All programs are delivered by volunteers. JA provides fun, hands-on programs that teach students financial literacy and equip them with the knowledge and skills to make a better life for themselves. All programs align with national and local curriculum standards.
How much time will it take?
The elementary school program consists of five (5) - 45 minute sessions.
The middle grades program consists of six (6) to eight (8) - 45 minute sessions.
The high school program consists of five (5) to ten (10) - 45 minute sessions.
What type of training is involved?
The volunteer training takes approximately one hour. You may attend one of our group training sessions or train online through our interactive online training program.
Who can volunteer?
Volunteers are typically business professionals, college students, community members, or parents who want to play an active part in participating in the education of students around them.
What if my schedule is always changing?
If you want to volunteer but have a varying schedule, it may be best to work with a partner. Pick a colleague with whom you enjoy spending time. Collective teaching will make it fun for you and your partner and he/she can always take over the class if you have a meeting.
What local areas are involved in Junior Achievement programs?
Junior Achievement provides programs to over 13,000 students in the Kansas City metro area.
Am I qualified to volunteer in a classroom?
A volunteer could be a valued employee, a retiree, a parent, a community member or a college student. A desire to be an inspirational role model is vital, along with the ability to communicate, motivate, and create enthusiasm. Volunteers must sign a volunteer conduct standards form.
How do I get signed up to volunteer?
You can contact the Junior Achievement office at 816-561-3558, email volunteer@jamidamerica.org or click here to register for a class assignment.
I want to be involved but I simply do not have time to volunteer — what else can I do?
There are numerous fundraisers including our annual Bowl-a-Thon, The Business Hall of Fame Event, and Adopt a School/Classroom participation opportunities. You may also choose to host a student (Job Shadow) or a class to visit your office for one day. We would love to help you get involved in any way that you can!
